for more than a thousand days and nights, nico stojan tapped away at what is now before us as ‘twisted manners’ - his debut album telling stories in sound that are both electronic in nature and human in touch. each organic sounding track on the release, including their neighbouring interludes, graze on the moments, people and cultures which have encompassed the albums journey and brought it forward to what it is today. these inspirations have merged from moody mornings in foreign lands (‘blue hour’) to his love affair with the elements of jazz (‘tortured paper’), to the breezy ways of the pacific island people he connects with so much (‘maori girl’). these diverse cultures and the passing musicians who have importantly contributed to the essence of the album have built strong yet invisible strings with a myriad of voices and instruments which weave throughout the music giving us a piece of work that is both textured in flavour and rich in motive. twisted manners is a clean example of this - house music whose soft open spaces and gentle beats sway easily through analog sounds coming from string quartets, saxophonists and double bass players to name a few. these collaborations and stojan’s guiding ear will walk you right into the dreamy spaces and faraway places of his travels without you breaking a sweat. seasoned with moments stolen under the fading light of day, long trips into the beautiful nothingness of his eclectic surroundings and respect for electronic music that is both timeless and sincere, ursl records is delighted to present stojan s debut album, ‘twisted manners’.

the a&r edits return with a double-header from hot digits head honcho fingerman. the brighton producer grew up listening to his parents enviable steely dan record collection and for his comeback outing on a&r has retouched the de la soul-sampled classic, peg. a tight circle of djs have road tested this rework over recent times and we ve been inundated with requests for its release. in 1970, new york session drummer bill curtis merged the fatback jazz beat of new orleans into a street funk band and signed his outfit to perception records. over the next decade, they incorporated jazz and disco into their signature funk style, before moving in an r&b direction in the 80s. during this period, american pop success proved elusive, but the group made regular appearances in the uk singles chart, hitting the top twenty three times with (are you ready) do the bus stop , (do the) spanish hustle and i found lovin it s the latter, an anthem on the uk black music scene in 1984, that has been served up here by fingerman, a staple at his casablanca jazz club residency in brighton and now available on wax for the first time.

fernando gallego is not a music band which we can define as common, on the contrary. this group from uburriana, successor of funeraria vergara, started its history back in the early 1984, (after juan luis montoliu left), and it ended in 1986 with the emergence of the project *decúbito supino*. their usage of some synthesizers, amongst other gadgets, keyboards and large petrol cans, was the distinctive feature as regards to their predecessor band, such an echo defined a much more industrial and electronic sound, closer to early ebm.

nord records is welcoming dj guy on the label for their ninth record. the release is a double 12 inch with tracks produced in 1993-1997. dj guy was able to find and restore these tapes which results in a vinyl release from nord.

last year s disco (a fine selection of independent disco, modern soul & boogie 1978-82) compilation from soul jazz offered undeniable proof that few diggers deserve their reputation as much as dutch discotheque scholar disco patrick. given the reception, it s no surprise to see that the london label have commissioned patrick to undertake a second assessment of the genre s lesser known gems with the focus here on the years 1976-80. the first of two double lp vinyl samplers to accompany the full cd release finds pat pulling out gems like the extremely pricey skip jackson curio micro wave boogie and t.k. disco treat cosmic funk by mad dog fire department.
